Foreign Policy

MAKAN is a Singaporean restaurant designed for Mexico — not by leaning on clichés, but by translating culture.

The identity begins with vernacular, not Asia as a style: the everyday objects, materials, colors and patterns that shape real life. From Singapore, that means utilitarian ceramics, shophouse typography, market packaging, traditional floral wedding trays, rooster bowls. From Mexico, the same lens applies — street markets, hand-painted signs, tiles, color-blocked walls, domestic patterns, and the visual confidence of public space.

Shared bits of visual and cultural DNA form an entry point and the foundation of the brand visuals: bold color, roosters, and floral patterns.

MAKAN doesn’t try to look like every other global restaurant. It stays grounded, specific, and legible — Singapore, spoken with a Mexican accent.
